CHIEF OF PARTY (COP)

As a firm we do three primary things across a variety of sectors:

- Jumpstart social innovation and collective impact initiatives, by getting diverse stakeholders all thinking and moving in the same direction, tackling some of our world’s biggest challenges.

The Opportunity
CollaborateUp is seeking a Chief of Party to lead and manage all financial, administrative and technical aspects of this project. This is a full-time, long-term position based in Washington, DC. The position is contingent upon award.
Who You Are
- A seasoned project Director, COP, or DCOP with a proven track record of leading teams to deliver outstanding client engagement and high-quality services through efficient and effective development and execution of technical vision;
- An impact-driven individual looking to work at the nexus of innovation, evidence, and learning with demonstrated leadership in knowledge management, organizational learning, and program monitoring in an international development context, particularly in support of USAID missions and operating units;
- A professional with eight (8) years or more of relevant experience in similar position in fields related to results and objectives required for the successful implementation of this project; with emphasis on experience leading projects focusing of food security and agriculture;
- Possess a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline (such as Organizational Development, International Development, Public Policy, Public Administration, or other areas related to Knowledge Management, Strategic Communications, or Adult Learning);
- Experience with knowledge management platforms and the ability to serve as the primary anchor and liaison between the Project, USAID, and other stakeholders engaged in these platforms;
- Experience developing and implementing work plans, budgets, and staffing plans in a fast paced environment while working within the regulated environment of USAID.
The Role
- Provide overall program leadership, including setting a strategic vision and driving the identification and mitigation of program risks across all aspects of the project to ensure achievement of program results and objectives;
- Manage performance monitoring, work planning and strategic project budget management;
- Represent the project and liaise with the USAID missions, government officials, other donors and partner organizations;
- Ensure timely information on the progress and status of all activities, including but not limited to the timely delivery of required reports in forms agreed to with USAID;
- Supervise, support, and direct the project- technical and administrative staff, subcontractors, and short-term consultants to ensure effective project implementation across deliverables;
- Ensure quality control and the overall responsiveness of technical assistance provided under the contract, including necessary adjustments to operations to fit the requirements of USAID.

Who You Are
- A seasoned project DCOP with significant program management experience with a donor, contractor, or INGO; required fluency with USAID policies and procedures with regard to human resources, grant management, financial management, financial reporting, and procurement processes;
- An impact-driven individual looking to work at the nexus of innovation, evidence, and learning with demonstrated leadership in knowledge management, organizational learning, and program monitoring in an international development context, particularly in support of USAID missions and operating units;
- A professional with five (5) years or more of relevant experience in similar position in fields related to results and objectives required for the successful implementation of this project; with emphasis on experience supporting projects focusing of food security and agriculture; preferably with demonstrated supervisory experience
- Possess a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant discipline (such as Organizational Development, International Development, Public Policy, Public Administration, or other areas related to Knowledge Management, Strategic Communications, or Adult Learning), or a Bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline with eight (8) years of relevant experience;
- Experience developing and implementing work plans, budgets, and staffing plans in a fast paced environment while working within the regulated environment of USAID, including supervisory experience.
The Role
- Ensuring program implementation in accordance with USAID regulations and procedures; certifying that all procurement processes are perceived as transparent by beneficiaries, assuring fair and transparent procurement processes, review of financial management, and monitoring grant implementation.
- Supervising day-to-day field presence in the areas of operations, administration, logistics, procurement, budgeting and financial accounting and acting as the COP when they are absent from the program
- Ensure timely information on the progress and status of all activities, including but not limited to the timely delivery of required reports in forms agreed to with USAID/REFS;
- Supervise, support, and direct the relevant project staff, subcontractors, and short-term consultants to ensure effective project implementation across deliverables;
- Ensure quality control and the overall responsiveness of technical assistance provided under the contract, including necessary adjustments to operations to fit the requirements of USAID.
Hiring and Compensation

Who You Are
- Currently enrolled, recent graduate or working towards a master’s degree or higher in public policy, international development, or social science (preferred)
- 3-5 years of experience in the public policy, international relations or international development sector
- Experienced in planning and coordinating workshops and meetings, i.e., facilitating virtual meeting platforms such as Zoom, WebEx, and BlueJeans, coordinating with venues, caterers, and other vendors, ensuring appropriate materials are set up, facilitating breakout sessions, etc.
- Excellent researcher and writer with demonstrated ability to produce materials that provide clear direction and contribute towards achieving collective group goals
- Social media experience (content development and posting)
- Strong attention to detail and administrative skills
- Self-directed with a strong work ethic – you can carry out tasks independently after initial direction
- Interest in or experience with collective impact programs, public-private partnerships, human-centered design, and inclusive methods
The Role
Depending on specific project requirements, the Associate or Senior Associate will:
- Assist in managing collective impact programs by supporting the planning of virtual meetings and other backbone support at the direction of the CEO, Director of Practice, or Managers
- Assist in program management for clients, by curating progress reports, facilitating and coordinating workshops, conducting research, and leading client meetings
- Lead and/or contribute to business development proposals and provide support for research of business development opportunities
- Develop marketing and outreach materials, utilizing social media and the company website
- Contribute to, write and/or edit client reports, literature reviews or other strategic documents
- Write and edit blog posts and social media posts on firm activities and approaches
- Support meeting and event coordination and facilitation, including learning and exploring new virtual collaboration platforms
- Support the CEO, Director of Practice, and Managers in other administrative and research tasks, as assigned
Who You Are
- At least 10 years of experience providing facilitation to meetings and conferences ranging from one hour to one week and for groups of at least 10 and ideally in excess of 50.
- Demonstrated facilitation and coaching past performance with clients in the public, corporate, and non-profit sectors; facilitation or coaching certification a plus
- Charismatic personality with the ability to hold a room and maintain a high level of energy
- Capability to capture and synthesize complex discussions into key decision points and action items
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in any field
The Role
Depending on the specific project requirements, the senior facilitator will:
- Assist with meeting preparation, including participating in planning calls with clients to understand their intended outcomes and advising on developing a meeting agenda and detailed run-of-show
- Serve as the master facilitator for convenings, generating the group’s energy, holding the space for collaboration, and guiding them to reach decisions and actions
- Help plan and facilitate backbone support functions for collective impact programs
Who You Are
- Entrepreneurial self-starter who loves taking on new challenges
- Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field with seven+ years of work experience, international experience a plus
- Experienced trainer and curriculum designer for international participants
- Ability to develop multi-year strategies to grow training opportunities for the business
- Experienced facilitator with specific experience in multi-sectoral collaborations and co-creation
- Experienced in meeting and workshop design for domestic and international audiences, both in-person, virtual and hybrid
- Comfortable designing capacity building and training curricula and materials
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects with a high level of professionalism and attention to detail (project director or similar experience preferred)
- Experience in collective impact, organizational development, and/or change management preferred
- Ability to lead on specific new business development efforts, including spearheading proposals and conducting meetings and calls with potential new clients
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Technologically-curious and willing to dive in to learn new software and platforms that could benefit virtual collaboration
- Knowledge of institutional behavior change, design thinking and/or human centered design a plus
- Experience with USAID project design and implementation a plus
- Language skills a plus with French preferred
The Role
This role is part of our senior management team, growing and maintaining our training business by working on multiple projects, mentoring and managing staff, and developing and marketing our training methods and tools. We’re looking for a Sr. Manager that will:
- Use our lean startup toolkit for social innovation to design training curricula for both tailored and open-enrollment courses throughout the year
- Develop and execute a 3-year plan for training courses and offerings to expand our training business unit
- Manage complex projects that take clients through all stages of co-creation
- Support the design and facilitation of meetings and workshops ranging from 8-250 participants, including creating materials and a detailed facilitator’s guide, leading logistics, coordination and execution, and facilitating plenary and small group discussions
- Oversee client relationships, assist with business development, and project execution including managing project timelines, milestones, and profitability
